The Hazardous Waste Regulations 2005 designate all batteries are hazardous waste and must be recycled by a registered waste carrier. Batteries must not be disposed of in general waste for landfill and should be contained and collected as hazardous waste for recycling. The regulations clearly state that it is your responsibility as a producer of waste lead acid batteries to dispose of batteries according to the stringent rules set out by The Environment Agency.
